True Followers of Christ - Part 2

What does it truly mean to be a follower of Christ? In 1 John 5:3-5, we are brought face to face with two defining marks of genuine faith: obedience to God's Word and victory over the world. These are not abstract ideals but living, breathing realities in the life of every true believer. The passage confronts a question that cuts to the heart of our existence: are we merely hearers of the Word, or are we doers? Obedience, we discover, is not a burden imposed on us from the outside but a joy that flows from the inside, born out of genuine love for God. Just as Jacob labored seven extra years for Rachel and experienced those years as only a few days because of his love, so the commands of God feel light to those who truly love Him. This is not the heavy, crushing weight of man-made religion or self-righteous effort, but the easy yoke that Christ himself described in Matthew 11:28-30. The sermon draws a striking parallel between every false religious system in the world and the gospel of grace, showing us that only one path leads to genuine rest and freedom. We are invited to examine our own hearts and ask whether our obedience is a reluctant duty or a passionate expression of love for the God who first loved us.
